WASHINGTON – The National Immigration Law Center (NILC) this week filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking the release of documents, communications, and other records in the public interest concerning recent, multi-agency, immigration enforcement operations involving federalized units of the National Guard.

NILC is seeking transparency on the National Guard’s role in several immigration and narcotics enforcement actions at California farms located in the Coachella Valley, Camarillo, and Carpinteria. Specifically, the request seeks information from the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regarding the National Guard’s role during these raids.

“The deployment of the U.S. military in our communities is not just unnecessary, it is yet another fear tactic this administration is using in its concerted assault on immigrant communities and our democratic traditions,” said Benjamin R. Farley, special counsel at NILC. “The public has a right to know what role the National Guard played in these actions and whether it was misused.”
